Centennial, Colo.,  July 19, 2018 — The Colorado Farm Bureau Foundation has donated $20,000 to help those affected by the Spring Fire in Huerfano and Costilla counties. Along with a $1,000 donation from Colorado Farm Bureau Insurance, collected donations will be given to individuals who were affected by the massive fire.

“The fire laid waste to the property and homes of many farmers, ranchers and families in the area,” said Don Shawcroft, President of the Colorado Farm Bureau. “Many families were tragically impacted by this disaster. We hope that this donation can help lessen the pain for these families, even if it’s only a little bit.”

The $20,000 donation to Spring Fire victims is in addition to funds being raised through the Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund. One hundred percent of the donated funds will go directly to victims of the Spring Fire and others burning around the state.

The Spring Fire is the the third largest fire in Colorado history, burning more than 108,000 acres and destroying 140 structures. The fire escalated quickly after it began due to unpredictable, high winds and extremely dry conditions and at one point, grew more than 8,000 acres in one day.

“For many, recovery is going to be long and hard,” continued Shawcroft. “While we know these donations won’t solve everything, but we hope that they help start the rebuilding process.”

Colorado Farm Bureau Foundation is continuing to accept donations to add to this fund. Please note Disaster Fund-CO Wildfire in the memo line if paying by check. Cash and checks can be sent to:
