Policy Communications Specialist
 

CFB is looking for someone with a passion for public policy and agriculture, ready to begin their career and administer our policy communications strategy and campaigns.

The best candidate for this position loves digging into complex issues and turning them into compelling messages that audiences can understand. As an entry-level position, Colorado Farm Bureau is looking for someone to take what they’ve learned in the industry so far and enthusiastically jump into this role. It’s the job of the Colorado Farm Bureau to promote, protect and enhance agriculture and rural communities from the many challenges they face. This position supports that mission by analyzing legislation, regulations and researching essential issues impacting the industry before communicating with farmers, ranchers, and other relevant audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Research, develop and draft messaging to communicate local, state and federal policies affecting agriculture with key audiences
2. Provide a clear perspective on complex legislative bills and regulatory rules in order to update, educate, inform and engage CFB members on critical policy issues
3. Support CFB’s mixed-media program, including traditional, electronic and social media; news media relations and member training activities
4. Assist with developing, updating and creating electronic and printed policy publications
5. Create and post policy content as needed to social media so audiences stay informed on important policy updates
6. Research and write informational materials (e.g. fact sheets, briefs, reports), distilling complex information into language for general consumption
7. Develop, update and refine the organization’s social media and electronic communication efforts in collaboration with the content creator
8. Produce clear and articulate information (e.g., memos, reports) to communicate success and opportunities to board of directors

EXPERIENCE:
While this is an entry-level position, it is preferred if you have experience:
– Working for a state or the U.S. Capitol
– Understanding and evaluating complex policy issues
– Working with regulatory issues
– Understanding agriculture

SKILLS:
– Exceptional writing skills
– Experience producing long- and short-form content for a variety of audiences
– Ability to understand complex policy issues and communicate them to a variety of audiences
– Understand the political process and craft messages to support communications efforts that persuade decision-makers
– Ability to use the appropriate voice to produce compelling, creative content to communicate policy positions
– Experience developing content for diverse audiences including the use of plain language
– Ability to understand where a reader is coming from and produce content that is compelling and understandable for them

The salary range for this position is $42,000 – $47,000.

Content Creator

CFB is looking for someone eager to develop content that shares the stories of farmers and ranchers across a wide variety of communications channels.

The best candidate for this position knows how to be seen in a cluttered, digital world. They can produce beautiful designs for print and digital while understanding their audience. Farmers and ranchers live in some of the most beautiful places across Colorado and we’re looking for someone who is hungry to capture that imagery and tell their stories. This position supports CFB’s mission of promoting, protecting and enhancing agriculture and rural communities through content creation as well as the implementation of CFB’s digital communications strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work with the communications team to brainstorm, conceptualize and create content for a variety of audiences (e.g. CFB members, farmers and ranchers, partners) to communicate about Farm Bureau policies, programs and agriculture issues
2. Develop content for a variety of CFB platforms (e.g., social media, website, print)
3. Manage social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn

4. Design collateral to support CFB programs and events
5. Stay up-to-date on the latest digital trends to inform strategy and improve communications
6. Source and edit photo and video content to be used across CFB platforms
7. Analyze and share insights based on the performance of content
8. Produce clear and articulate information (e.g., memos, reports) to communicate success and opportunities to board of directors
9. Review and execute proposed contracts and commitments of the department
10. Assists with the coordination of state meetings and conferences and document events through photo/video/written materials
11. Attend regional and national meetings as necessary
12. Cooperate with Farm Bureau affiliated company management to promote the total Farm Bureau program and services
13. Carry out other responsibilities as may be assigned or necessary

SKILLS:
-Exceptional writing skills
-Experience producing long- and short-form content for a variety of audiences
-Ability to understand CFB, strategies, messages and brand/campaign voice
-Ability to use the appropriate brand/campaign voice to produce compelling, creative content
-Experience developing content for diverse audiences including the use of plain language
-Ability to produce content that is visually compelling and easy to read/understand
-Ability to graphically design a variety of content to share on CFB communications platforms.
-Video and photo editing skills are highly preferred

The salary range for this position is $42,000 – $47,000.
