Colorado Farm Bureau (CFB) is proud to announce that President Carlyle Currier has been appointed to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF)’s Board of Directors. He was nominated by the Western Region Caucus to fulfill an unexpired term.

“I am honored to have been selected to represent Colorado and the western states on AFBF’s Board. I look forward to working with everyone at the national level and am excited to get started,” said Carlyle.

Carlyle has been the leader of Colorado Farm Bureau since 2020 and has a lifetime of knowledge and experience in agriculture.

He was raised on his family’s ranch in Molina, CO and received a BS degree in Agriculture Economics/Farm Management from CSU in 1976. After college, he returned home to work with his parents, becoming the fourth generation of his family on the ranch. Carlyle primarily raises commercial beef cattle, grazing them on National Forest permits during the summer while raising alfalfa and grass hay and small grains on the private ground for winter feed.

Soon after college, he served as President of the local affiliate of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association and on the local Soil Conservation District Board. He was President of Mesa County Farm Bureau for most of the 1980s and served on several state committees, including the membership committee, the Public Lands Advisory Committee, and the Beef Cattle Advisory Committee. In the early 90s, he was asked to represent his Farm Bureau District on a special Goals and Guidelines Committee, which was tasked with reviewing the Bylaws, membership agreements, and other documents of Colorado Farm Bureau and making recommendations for possible changes to the Board of Directors. In 1996, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Colorado Farm Bureau and was elected Secretary of the Board in 2003, Vice President in 2010, and President in 2020. As a CFB leader, he has testified on numerous bills in Denver in Colorado House or Senate hearings.

In 2005, Carlyle served as chair of CFB’s Water Committee when the state legislators passed HB05-1177. The CFB Water Committee could see that the agriculture industry needed to find a way to speak with a unified voice on water issues and Carlyle helped form the Colorado Ag Water Alliance (CAWA) and served as Vice Chair in 2010 and Chair in 2014.

He has also served on the AFBF Beef Cattle Advisory Committee, and served on the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) from 2003-2009. Trade is an important issue for him, and he has twice been asked to participate in a Canadian/US Beef issues Roundtable sponsored by the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association and the Canadian Embassy. In 2017, he went on a trade mission to Cuba with the Colorado Department of Agriculture and the Colorado World Trade Center. He was asked to speak about agriculture trade at the annual meeting of the Ports to Plains Alliance in 2018. In 2019, he testified on trade issues before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia in Washington DC.

During his presidency, he has testified on issues such as wolf reintroduction and ag labor, traveled internationally to discuss trade and agricultural practices, and has also joined the Colorado River Drought Task Force.

CFB is thrilled to have a voice for the western states at the national level and celebrates all of the hard work and effort Carlyle has dedicated to agriculture to lead him to this position.

Colorado Farm Bureau’s mission is to promote, protect and enhance the future of agriculture and rural communities. The organization represents all crops, livestock and sectors of agriculture and works to strengthen the industry through advocacy, leadership development, educational efforts and initiatives.
