There seems to be one word that always comes to mind when you think of Colorado Farm Bureau — Family. Whether you’re a seasoned farmer, a young and upcoming rancher, a general supporter of agriculture or a member of the staff, all support Colorado Farm Bureau because of the good that the organization does.
To get to know one another better, CFB will be sharing interviews with members and staff over the next few months. This month, we sat down with Emily Ibach, Director of State Affairs, to learn more about what she does at the Capitol and where she came from:
What is your name?
Emily Ibach
How would you describe what you do?
I work with legislators and stakeholder groups to ensure policy makers are informed and good policy is made before votes are cast.
What is your favorite part about your job?
I love working with CFB members and the general assembly on issues that affect them and the agriculture industry.
What benefit does your job provide to Farm Bureau members?
A voice and presence at the State Capitol promoting and protecting agriculture and rural values while they work hard to produce the nation’s food, fiber and fuel.
What is your favorite event at Farm Bureau?
Probably, the policy development session at Annual Meeting.
What do you love most about Farm Bureau?
We are one big family working together for the good of everyone.
What is your favorite memory of being out on a farm or ranch?
I grew up on my family’s ranch in Nebraska. FFA and 4-H provided a lifetime of memories of being out on the farm. If I had to choose one, probably the time my brothers and I made a “moat” which turned into a mudslide in Dad’s newly planted garden. Most of the garden washed away but we had a great time playing in the mud. Dad however, wasn’t very impressed. We were about 6-7.
What did you do before you came to Farm Bureau?
I was a graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Go Big Red!
Why did you want to work at Farm Bureau?
As a person who grew up in an agriculture state, I always looked up to Farm Bureau and the work that they did. I always knew they would be a great organization to work for and I didn’t hesitate when I learned there was a position open in Colorado.
What is one fun fact that no one at Farm Bureau knows about you?
No one? That’s tough. I’m a triplet and I have two awesome brothers that also work in the agriculture industry.
What is one thing members may not know about what you do?
I look at the policy book everyday to guide my work at the Capitol.
