Trade is vital to a strong, successful and lasting agriculture industry. This is particularly true when it comes to fostering relationships with our neighbors, Canada and Mexico. Colorado Farm Bureau is proud of the strides our countries have made in updating and modernizing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) into the recently negotiated U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The negotiation is just the first part of this process. Next, Congress must ratify the trade deal to protect the relationships, economic ties and supply lines with our neighbors.

USMCA will help lock in the quadrupling of U.S. agricultural exports to our neighbors accomplished over the last 25 years and further increase U.S. exports to two of our most important markets. Approximately 25 percent of all U.S. agriculture goods are exported to other nations, making trade essential to farmers and ranchers. It was important to modernize NAFTA and address the challenges that farmers and ranchers are facing today.
