The Colorado Farm Bureau Communications Department won an award from the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Excellence in Communications Award competition.
The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2025 Communications Award winners were named at this year’s Communications Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. The competition recognizes state Farm Bureau professionals from across the country for their exceptional work in communications.
Colorado Farm Bureau submitted four awards and received one: Best Video Feature Story for the LEGACY documentary and its partnership with PBS12. The LEGACY documentary was published in 2023 in partnership with Colorado State University Extension’s AgrAbility program, LandLogic, and others to share the message about mental health and available resources in rural Colorado.
The goal for the video was to share Colorado Farm Bureau members’ stories and experience with the Colorado Addiction and Mental Health Program (CAAMHP), which offers free vouchers for in-person or telehealth counseling. Many farmers, ranchers, and others who live in rural communities, still experience a stigma around mental health and doing what it takes to
This award is for the partnership with PBS12 in 2024. Colorado Farm Bureau and PBS12 partnered to show LEGACY during the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month. The partnership allows PBS12 to show LEGACY periodically over the course of two years.
During PBS12’s May 2024 showing, the documentary saw 1,447 viewers, which translates to 723 hours watched. They also shared the documentary via their email newsletter, delivered to 18,757 people, with a 21.5% open rate.
One of the judges said, “This is great content that outlines a timely and needed conversation, and, most importantly, concrete actions to take. Featuring a variety of voices really added to the overall messaging. This is a really important topic.”
Judged against states with similar membership sizes, participants could submit one entry per category, with 17 categories to choose from, in the areas of writing, print, media relations, social media, graphic design, video, audio and website. More than 300 entries for work produced in 2024 were submitted for the 2025 contest.
